Community Guidelines

Last updated October 24, 2026 · Version 1.0

Rate what you ate, honestly. Post photos of the food. Be decent to people, including the people who cook it. These guidelines explain what we remove, how strikes work, and how to appeal a decision you think we got wrong.

What belongs on TasteRex

  • Your own experience. Rate dishes you ate yourself. Repeat visits are welcome; they average into one ranked entry.
  • The dish, not the drama. Talk about taste, texture, technique, portion and value. A slow server or a parking problem is about the restaurant, not the dish.
  • Your own photos of the food. Photos should show the dish you’re rating, taken by you.
  • Honesty, good or bad. A low score is fine. Be specific and fair.

What we remove

Fake or manipulated ratings

  • Ratings of dishes you didn’t eat, or faked verified dines.
  • Ratings of a restaurant you own, work for, are closely related to, or compete with.
  • Ratings given in exchange for payment, free food, discounts or other perks. If a restaurant gave you something free and you still want to rate it, say so plainly in your review. Restaurants may not make a perk conditional on a rating, a positive rating, or a particular score.
  • Multiple accounts, coordinated rating campaigns, or AI-written reviews presented as your own.

Photos that aren’t your food

  • Photos that aren’t of the dish you’re rating, stock or professional photos you didn’t take, and photos copied from someone else.
  • Photos that mainly show people who haven’t agreed to be posted, or show anyone’s personal information.

Harmful content

  • Harassment, threats, bullying, hate speech, or content attacking people for who they are.
  • Sexual content, graphic violence, or content that sexualises minors (which we report to the authorities).
  • Personal information about anyone: names of staff, phone numbers, addresses, licence plates.
  • Allegations of crimes, health-code violations or food poisoning stated as fact. You can describe your own experience (“I felt unwell after eating this”). Report a public-health concern to your local health department.
  • Promotion of illegal activity, or of alcohol to anyone under 21.

Spam and off-topic content

  • Advertising, links, promotional codes, or the same review posted again and again.
  • Content unrelated to the dish or restaurant.

Intellectual property

  • Content that infringes someone’s copyright or trademark. See section 12 of our Terms for copyright notices.

How moderation works

Automated checks. Photos and review text are checked automatically when you post. If a photo can’t be confirmed as food, it’s held for review. Your score and review still post while the photo waits.

Reports. Anyone can report a rating, photo, review or profile for one of these reasons: not this dish, not food, offensive, spam or fake, or wrong restaurant. One report per person per post. A report alone doesn’t remove anything. The post stays up unless our checks or a reviewer agree it breaks these guidelines.

Restaurant reports. Verified restaurant owners can report ratings through the restaurant portal. They go through the same review as anyone else’s. Restaurants cannot remove ratings and cannot pay to have them removed.

Outcomes. When we remove something, we tell you what was removed, what was kept (for example, a photo removed while your score and rank stay), and which rule applied.

Strikes

A removal for breaking these guidelines may add a strike to your account. Strikes expire 12 months after they’re given.

Strikes in 12 months What happens
1 A notice explaining the rule
2 A warning that a third strike pauses posting
3 Posting is paused for 30 days

Serious violations, such as threats, sexual content involving minors, organised fake-rating schemes, or repeated ban evasion, may lead to an immediate permanent ban without strikes.

Appeals

You can appeal any moderation decision once, from the notice in the app. Tell us in your own words why you think we got it wrong. A person (not an automated system) reads every appeal, usually within two days. If we agree, we restore the content and remove the strike. The appeal decision is final.

If your account is suspended and you can’t sign in, email support@tasterex.com from the address on your account.

Block, mute and report

  • Report asks us to judge a post.
  • Mute quietly hides someone’s posts from you. They’re never told, and you can set it to expire.
  • Block is a wall: neither of you sees the other in feeds, search or profiles. Their earlier contributions to a shared group ranking stay, so the group’s list doesn’t silently change for everyone else.
